Resistance to tyranny will take many forms. The election of Trump is one. Taking a knee is another. As conditions deteriorate and the Social Contract fades tyranny can be expected to increase and resistance to it as well.

I disagree with Clinton on part of this. I agree there is nothing patriotic about
hating your country. However, I believe it is possible -- and quite common -- to
love your country while at the same time -- despise the government (and people) that is
in temporary charge of your country. After all -- that is what causes revolutions.

Had the Founding Fathers not loved America -- (and despised the government) -- they would
not have waged war against the government of Britain -- to make America a free country.
They would have found a home elsewhere.

On a personal note -- I can't think of any government we've had -- that I have loved as
much as I love our country.

A note: The Flag is not a part of the government. It is part of America.

Taking a knee is NOT disrespecting the flag.

I don't expect you to be sufficiently perceptive to understand why this
is beyond dispute.

I disagree with Clinton, also. I think it's perfectly valid
for a citizen to despise the government, but love his
country.

Here's a quote, from the same speech, that I agree with,
though:

"If you treat law enforcement officers who put their lives
on the line for your safety every day like some kind of
enemy army, to be suspected, derided, and--if they should be
able to enforce the law against you--to be shot, you are
wrong."

I agree, and I also disagree with Clinton on that matter.
Hating the government is a time honored American
tradition, and IMV that's not a bad tradition at all.

I agree with that, and as I've mentioned elsewhere, I'll
give police officers a lot of leeway and "benefit of the
doubt", when they shoot somebody. That's not 100%
since there are police officers like Joe Arpaio who'd
shoot every Mexican he saw if he could get away with
it, but it is a good starting bias ISTM.

Hating the government is a great, American tradition, but it
has one big flaw, I think, in that most people only hate
politicians of the opposite party while swallowing the
propaganda from their own party hook, line and sinker.

Yes, I agree also. I've always been a big supporter of police. I suppose most
people who live in a town that is, er --- "mixed" -- understand how much they need the
police patrolling their neighborhoods. We never know when we might need a cop to shoot
somebody (something?) for us.

America's police officers are mostly getting a bum rap, I
think, and I think the Democrats are keeping blacks stirred
up and hating the police, simply to get their votes.

How is that relevant to those taking a knee?
