Maybe I am different to the rest of the world but the video in this
article would not make me want to watch F1 if I was not already
interested. In fact I think my reaction might be "what the hell is this
crap?"

Hadn't realised they were using that font to write actual whole
sentences on their website too. It's awful.

I know. But there are things that it's (barely) suitable for, and that's
not one of them.

Sod the bloody font
The whole page keeps blinking (I assume as different parts load)
seems to be a firefox issue, working fine with google crome.

I imagine the twats have only tested on windows with Internet exploder &
tried to be far too clever.

Ghouls will be flocking to see high speed accidents and plenty of blood
flowing into the gutters. Will footage of Jules Bianchi fatal crash be
aired to advertise the Japanese GP?

I certainly agree that was far better than what LM came up with. And
what else have I learnt in this thread? LM have their own font .....
nice to see they are concentrating so much on improving the sport!

Cool, I'm pleased you liked it too. :)

The rest of his channel is well worth a look if you have a few minutes
sometime.

Hard to say. To me it feels like it's aimed at people who know about F1 but maybe aren't going to go out of their way to watch it on TV.

Their aim is to attract new viewers, and I think particulary a younger audience, more comfortable with tech who might be attracted to the F1TV product.

This is the way it is these days. Marketing is always about new business. I regularly get the zing with my bank. They advertise some cool deal and I phone up and say "do I get that?" And they say "no. New business only."

I don't owe them anything. I switched because I could get a better deal on a home loan. Maybe it's time to shop around again, but it's a pain to switch.

I may be revealing myself as a dinsosaur, but: I just heard of a thing called TWITCH, which enables hundreds of thousands of videogame addicts to WATCH people playing video games. As if videogames weren't already unreal.

Next may be an app that lets you watch TWITCH-watchers as they watch.

Seriously, I am happy to be corrected on my understanding of what TWITCH is.

On the other hand, yesterday on the bus, a construction labourer got on, sat down, and took a cloth-bound (yes hardback) volume from his bag, and sat reading it.

Why does one need an app for that? Videogame contests are televised already. It's a bit odd - cartoon characters hit and kick the bejabers out of each other, and then the camera switches to the victor.

There's also a parallel F1 videogame championship that F1 (not FIA) runs.

So maybe that's the thinking - selling F1 to video game fans.

Ooops. I believe the correct term is "eSports".

Twitch.tv carries the ...err.... footage of eSports contests. To quote myself, it is cartoon characters hitting and kicking the bejabers out of each other. So it sounds like what I already get included in my satellite TV subscription.

Doesn't sound *much* like the inaugural F1 eSports championship last
year, to be fair.

No. But F1 is not all of esports and not all of esports involves. There are many games that involve physical combat or shoot outs. Some are one on one, some are team games. And there are audiences that go to see these games on big screens and who holler their approval.
