That news is what brought me back here after my usual morning looksee.
Hoped for more information, since none of the sites I can reach with
the limited Internet access I have here seems to have covered the
story yet.

Anyway, this reminded me that I asked some months ago what would
limit publication of <The Last Dangerous Visions> if he died (with
the manuscripts and such intact). Yes, I feel a bit ghoulish, but in
any event, we're going to find out now.

I do not have enough of his stuff.

I was never a big fan - I preferred the sunnier version of histrionic
romanticism peddled by Spider Robinson, which probably tells you
something about my lack of taste - but I sure don't have enough of
his stuff any *more*. I'm pretty sure I no longer even own
<Dangerous Visions>, and quite sure about <The Glass Teat>, which I
actually did like.

I saw him a couple times at cons, never spoke to him. Read a lot of his
work.

We had an argument once, over -- as you might have guessed --
Star Trek.

(And if you're under 21, especially, that is very likely to be the case. There's a reason you seldom hear of two 30-year-olds, however buff, falling in love at first sight.)

And after he finished talking he went over to the dealer's room and punched out a guy that was selling a bootleg of one of his books. For which he was taken to jail. I don't know if I ever found out how that turned out.

Some time around then, I don't recall if it was before or after, he wrote an essay that was published in one of the SF mags. Seems somebody had saved his vomit in a Styrofoam cup. Then he came up to Ellison and threw the vomit in Ellison's face. What kind of person does that?

In that case, if I recall correctly, the thing that pissed
Ellison off was stealing one of his stories, and basically

I'm pretty sure that was BayCon when it was held in the Red Lion
(now Doubletree) by the San Jose airport. Maybe Westercon; it
was held there once.

I vividly recall him reading from "Mefisto in Onyx". (I thought
I recalled that was his spelling... a quick google, and yeah.)
I went out and found a copy of the magazine it was printed in
(Omni?) because I didn't subscribe to it. It's one of the
three stories by him that I liked a lot.

Mostly, my reaction to his stories was "ewww". Great writer,
but not to my taste. Mostly.
