Sunday is the traditional time to foment bonhomie amongst radio amateurs
and radio hams, so it is better that these NGs should have low traffic
than to be plagued with the gratuitous abuse that comes in a flood from
Chippenham?

yes 10m fm mobile was quite good today with my alinco and full size stinger

Lots of SpE on 6m and 10m. I heard a loud PA on 14MHz, I also heard
our good buddies working the Skip on 27MHz, including one on morse
code and some on one the JT digital modes.

Otherwise I spent the afternoon not working anyone on 13cm.

tones...not bothered too much with in the past.... I know some need it to
bring it up but how do I know if it is needed continuously?????...can't find

I've no idea. FM doesn't sound to good on the Short Waves, because of
the deep fading.

look I'm only trying to find out when a 10m fm repeater requires continuous
ctcss tone...If I could find it on google I would as asking a question here
brings Guru reactions like yours .........never had any problem because
others with a tone had always brought them up and the cw at the end tells
you what tone is required A to J ..so..ALL I was asking was where does
brians C come into it?...simples.....(bloody professionals)

You were told where it came from: CTCSS - Continuous Tone Controlled
Sub-audible Squelch- the C is for C continuous.

As usual, you were being stupid, no wonder you are an under achiever.

three 10m fm rigs that don't have CTCSS and only two that do so all I was

You can try to hide your lack of technical knowledge as much as you like
Jim, all you are doing is proving how little you know.

CTCSS is a continuous system, pure and simple, no matter what you try to
claim.

I suggest you go an play on CB, it is less technical and you can pretend
to be an expert.

I think the point that Jim is trying to make is that some repeaters only
require the CTCSS tone if they are inactive and to bring them up in the
first place. That is certainly true for my local 70cms one, which once
transmitting no longer requires CTCSS to be there for access

You can try to hide your lack of technical knowledge as much as you like
Jim, all you are doing is proving how little you know.
CTCSS is a continuous system, pure and simple, no matter what you try to
claim.
I suggest you go an play on CB, it is less technical and you can pretend
to be an expert.
I think the point that Jim is trying to make is that some repeaters only
require the CTCSS tone if they are inactive and to bring them up in the
first place. That is certainly true for my local 70cms one, which once
transmitting no longer requires CTCSS to be there for access
Jeff
leave him his brain is too scrambled to understand what I was
asking...perhaps I will get a proper reply on moderated .....I just wanted
to know how to identify the few that require the tone to talk through .....

If he has CTCSS to bring them up them he has it to keep them open.

If the repeater only requires and initial CTCSS tone, it will be open
for him if he hasn't got a tone if he can hear it.

He is being obtuse- ie looking for a row.

so what do I do with my two ic728s dx77 ct1 conversion and oascar conversion
? .. call away then find the repeater requires tone for a qso.....I would be
quite happy if I were told there are few like that on 10m or there was some
way of finding out to stop me calling away and wasting my time ....but no
off you go with the insults ......

I think the question is "Are CTCSS repeaters like the ones that use only
1750Hz toneburst?"

If a TB repeater is 'down', you need a burst of TB (sometimes plus a few
seconds of audio) to 'bring it up' - but once it's 'up', a blank carrier
will keep it 'up'.

I think that this isn't true for CTCSS, where the first C means what it
says. With an input carrier present, and when the repeater is 'up', it
will drop out if the CTCSS is removed.

It is certainly true for some repeaters, for example out local 70cms one
requires CTCSS to bring it up from cold, but then only needs carrier to
continue with the QSO.

So, as has been suggested in uk.r.a.m, it's just an LF version of the
1750Hz 'whistle-up'?

Pretty much, but a bit more selective.

yes well sold my DR635E so not on 2m any longer...a blessed relief
!....using the alinco DRM03 in the car these days much more
activity

2 or 70 ....trying to figure out when a repeater needs
continuous

If it needs CTCSS then it needs it continuously, the C is for Continuous.
right... thanks ....
But is C not 77 c/s ? ......
Next time Gareth offers you one-to-one teKnical lessons, walk away. Quickly.
look I'm only trying to find out when a 10m fm repeater requires continuous
ctcss tone...If I could find it on google I would as asking a
question
here
brings Guru reactions like yours .........never had any problem because
others with a tone had always brought them up and the cw at the end tells
you what tone is required A to J ..so..ALL I was asking was where does
brians C come into it?...simples.....(bloody professionals)
You were told where it came from: CTCSS - Continuous Tone Controlled
Sub-audible Squelch- the C is for C continuous.
As usual, you were being stupid, no wonder you are an under achiever.
look twat face I know it is continuous when it is switched on but I have
three 10m fm rigs that don't have CTCSS and only two that do so all I was
asking was how can I tell when a repeater requires continuous tone for
talking through and not just for the initial access to bring it up as I
don't want to waste my time trying to get a reply with a no tone rig...fuck
me do I need to ask on moderated to get a non-insulting reply? ........
You got a sensible reply. Then you tried to be silly by acting like the
class clown. Now you are making it worse.
go fuck yourself brian..I think you don't realise some repeaters need CTCSS
switched in for you to gain talk through not just the initial bring up
......your problem not mine .....
You can try to hide your lack of technical knowledge as much as you like

I'm not aware of any repeaters which require CTCSS, and which do not require it to be on all the time.

I'm not aware of any commercially-made radios which allow you to enable CTCSS tone encode, and which do not then send the tone continuously.

But I'm not a professional radio amateur, so I could be wrong...!

others with a tone had always brought them up and the cw at the end tells
you what tone is required A to J ..so..ALL I was asking was where does
brians C come into it?...simples.....(bloody professionals)
I'm not aware of any repeaters which require CTCSS, and which do not
require it to be on all the time.
I'm not aware of any commercially-made radios which allow you to
enable CTCSS tone encode, and which do not then send the tone
continuously.
But I'm not a professional radio amateur, so I could be wrong...!
But you're not wrong.
According our resident pervert/expert on all topics he is.
Of course, while he claim to have worked on such kit, it is all bunkum-
like his other claims.
Whether all properly designed modern equipment sends the tone
continuously is an entirely separate issue from whether repeater
operators require it on all follow-up transmissions. They could do, but
it is a separate question.
