In previous generations British royalty married Protestant European
royalty as a rule.

In recent times they've generally married Britons.

This is a first in terms of someone who's close to the Crown and staying
there marrying a non-European (as opposed to Edward VIII giving up the
Crown and being sent abroad).

I have to wonder how Britons will take hearing an American accent when
they are visited by their own royalty,but I don't know how previous
foreign accents went over.
